43-01-28 Sade's On the Phone

STARRING: BERNARDINE FLYNN (SOLO)
Sade is busy at the phone, window and back door as she dodges (or tries to) the newly-moved davenport, which she keeps bumping into.

Our favorite radio actress

This episode is a total solo effort from Bernadine Flynn. In interviews from the 1970's, she spoke about this episode: (((HEAR))) and (((HEAR))).  Flynn mentions some facts not associated with this particular show, so a Sade-solo may have happened more than once.

It's unfortunate that we are not able to listen to this episode, for I suspect we would come away more amazed at the talent of Flynn than we are now.

    Trivia:

+ When Sade talks to Mis' Trogle on the phone, she briefly speaks about her daughter, Margaret.  Mis' Trogle also has the first name of Margaret!

+ Mr. Croucher has a son named 'Leland'.

+ Though Bill Idelson is in the Navy at this date, Rush raps at the window on two occasions.  That's mind boggling.  Yes, it's just a radio show.

+ Irving or Irvin?? The grocery delivery boy is referred to by different names (Irving or Irvin) by different family members in different episodes.  The script here says, ''Irving'', yet it's in the minority.  Just try and live with it.

36-05-02 Rush Charts His Future to The Year 2000 (re-used script)

STARRING: ART VAN HARVEY, BERNARDINE FLYNN AND BILL IDELSON
Rush charts out his life some 74 years into the future.

Rush says he will name his future children: Henrietta, Bernardine, Clinton, Webster, Peggy and Cecil.

First, note that Rush wants to name one of his future kids, "Bernardine"- obviously this is a Paul Rhymer homage to Bernadine [or perhaps 'Bernardine' - see comments] Flynn (Sade.)

Rhymer often used names of people he knew in his sketches (Norris Goff, Urquhardt, Homer Heck, etc.)

We learn that as of this date Mr. Chinbunny was not yet the principal of the school; he was only the Superintendent.  Mr. Robertson was the High School's Superintendent before Chinbunny. Chinbunny though is described as "an up and comer."

Miss Kinney, Rush's Latin teacher, was mentioned once again.

Mis' Kilgore, who wasn't mentioned in the audio episodes until the very last episode of "Series One", was mentioned in this episode. She lives on Elder Street.

Lawrence Kirby has a sister that has a job that uses the typewriter at Edwards' Junior High School.

      44-09-29 Farewell Show

STARRING: ART VAN HARVEY, BERNARDINE FLYNN, DAVID WHITEHOUSE AND CLARENCE HARTZELL

Russell, Vic, Uncle Fletcher and Sade are all at the house but all are getting ready to leave, each going a different direction.
      ________________________
The episode is a metaphor of the entire series, Vic and Sade, which ended after this show. It had been on the air for 13 consecutive years.

The show would come back to the air in about a year's time but the show would change and would sadly begat some real actors playing parts that we have only imagined in the past.

      This final episode to the original 13 year run has a special ending which I have kept as part of the original program. The ending sounds like this: {{{HEAR}}}

      Trivia:

+ Russell is all dressed up to go watch the fat men play handball at the YMCA. One wonders why.

+ Sade is going to the Bijou with Mis' Kilgore and Mis' Trogle. Recall that Mis' Kilgore lives near the Stembottoms.

+ It is mentioned for the first time that Vic's lodge meetings are held at the Unity building, downtown.

+ Uncle Fletcher mentions Martin Jordle and notes he is from Sycamore, Illinois. He helped bury Anderson L. McFlutcher, who had got caught between two cyclones.

+ Uncle Fletcher has plans to spend the evening with "jumpy" Mr. Feedburn, who was obviously not so "lost" after all. They plan to: fool with the peanut machine in the inter-urban station (Uncle Fletcher is half-owner), hang around the Butler House Hotel lobby and listen to the drummers talk politics and go down to Chicgao-Alton depot and watch the fast meat train to Kansas City go through.

      43-11-15 Ike Kneesuffer's Snapshots

STARRING: ART VAN HARVEY, BERNARDINE FLYNN AND DAVID WHITEHOUSE

Sade will sometimes get photographs from the neighbors and will make Vic and Russell sit through a session of her telling everything about the photos and the people in them. The men dislike this very much.

Vic came across an old stack of photographs he found in old desk that belongs to Ike Kneesuffer; his idea is for he and Russell to make up names and stories about the photos and force Sade to sit through the presentation, thereby boring her to no end (like she does to them.)

At first, Sade is bored and attempts to leave when suddenly she sees someone she recognizes. After that, it snowballs and she takes over the presentation and the men seem to be at a loss as to how this could have possibly happened!
      ________________________
The real fun of this story is this: did Sade really know the people in the photographs or did she realize what the men were doing and decide she'd turn the tables on them?  (This is also the sentiment of this gentleman.)  Sade can spot a phoney a mile away; did she spot Vic and Russell trying to pull the wool over her eyes after viewing just a few photos?

      Trivia:

+ Russell begins the episode by eating buttered bread with sugar on it.  Here is a (way too) elaborate Wiki on how to make it.

+ Vic uses several nicknames for Russell in this episode: "Stone Bruise Old Two Car Garage", "Pick Handle", "Button Hook", "Bull Frog" and "Herman."

+ Mis' Harris has a son whose little boy almost drowned in Rose Willow Creek.

+ William Larrs was mentioned for the first time. He keeps music in a satchel and has a dog named, "Strike" that can sit up.

+ Mr. and Mis' Willard were mentioned for the first time as living on Oak Street.

+ Ida Storker (first time mentioned) - spends two weeks every Summer visiting Mis' Kilgore (first time mentioned) - Mis' Kilgore is said to live next door to the Stembottoms. We know they do not live right next door; we'll assume they live a couple of houses away and I have changed the map to reflect this.

+ Mr. Helfnan (first time mentioned) - Fred and Ruthie know him. He can do tricks with a lighted cigar.

+ Mis' Groovel or Mis' Stoogle (first time mentioned) - Sade can't remember the name exactly.

+ Myrtle Strickle (first time mentioned) - Works at Yamilton's and often would put bargains off to on side for Sade.

+ Laticia Wigg (first time mentioned)
