43-09-xx Russell Tenders His Resignations
STARRING: ART VAN HARVEY, BERNARDINE FLYNN, DAVID WHITEHOUSE
Before school even starts, Russell writes letters to various school clubs he's joined, resigning, in order to form the notion that he's going to spend all of his time concentrating on school duties.
Some of the clubs are very, very similar and some are completely different.
This episode pales in comparison to it's predecessor; Russell is alright but he's certainly no Rush.
Trivia:
+ Russell mentions at least four of the club leaders (teachers?) and none of them correlate with the club leaders that Rush had. They are as follows:
Public Library Younger Boys Research Club - William Hinkert+ The family comes up with four made-up names of clubs:
Kelsey Street Athletic Association - Harry Hontin
Fellowship of Part-time Ushers - Franklin Block
Fraternity of Football Fanatics - Elton Braddum
Sewage Disposal Workers Semi-Classical Silver Cornet Band+ When the telephone rings, Russell thinks "It might be the guy who calls for Fat (Jackson.") He must be calling a lot in the missing episodes.
Chicago-Alton Luxury Club
Wednesday Afternoon Doll Baby Group
Young People's Singing Society
+ Raymond Surrells seems to be (so far) Russell's best friend.
+ Oyster Cracker (Russell's friend) was mentioned for the first time.

43-09-20 Fifty Photos of Vic
STARRING: ART VAN HARVEY, BERNARDINE FLYNN AND CLARENCE HARTZELL

Vic's dentistry photos are going to be published in a magazine.
The photos were available to him so he bought 50 photos of himself with his mouth open for the sum of $12.50.
________________________
So-so material here. This episode is noted for Uncle Fletcher mentioning so many names and being a little more out of his head than usual.Trivia:
+ Uncle Fletcher complained about having to sit on a board on top of Mr. Gumpox's wagon. Sade says she has an old cushion that says, "My name is Howard T. McWilliamson" on it that she will give him.
+ Charlie Husher is seen outside playing; in this episode he is 6 years old. In a previous episode in 1941, he was 3 years old meaning that while he was growing up, Rush stayed at the same age of 14 years old.
+ Uncle Fletcher tells the story of Martin Jordle. Uncle Fletcher says he tried to invent a violin you play by mouth. He and his wife Alvira have the following children: Marvin, Carolyn, Eva, George, Thomas, Richard and Pauline. The whole family ran barefoot and carried a baked apple pie from Kingston to Dekalb, Illinois in 6 minutes!
+ Vic calls Uncle Fletcher, "Doctor Sleech"; Uncle Fletcher thinks Vic says, "Hector Speech."

| Ish Kabibble (circa 1950) |
Kabibble was a real fellow (although that was his stage name). He was a comedian and musician in vaudeville, radio, movie and television.
+ Not only did Vic have 50 photos taken of himself with his mouth open, but so did his co-worker, Lolita di Rienzi. He bought 12 of her photos and she bought 12 of his. It was not said if she was going to be in the magazine too, but we can suspect she was.
+ Here's a list of people Uncle Fletcher mentions in this episode: Harry Hunch from Dixon, Bert Doofer from Cordova, Roy Dejectedly from Dixon, Ernie Shatwell from Union Grove, Anabell Urch from Kofax, Myrtle McStalt from Cropsey, Henry Ichfeed from Winona. All of these are first time audio mentions along with the aforementioned Marvin, Carolyn, Eva, George, Thomas, Richard and Pauline Jordle.

43-12-27 Invoice Preparations
STARRING: ART VAN HARVEY AND DAVID WHITEHOUSE
Vic is busy trying to get some invoices done and Russell is home making life miserable for him.
A re-working of the 39-09-06 Office Invoices script and this version is actually much better.
Trivia:
+ An uncle bought Heinie Call a rabbit: {{{HEAR}}}

+ Russell contends he is 14 years old and has blue eyes. No one on the show seems to have any other color of eyes than blue.
+ Vic uses the following nicknames on Russell in this episode: Dr. Sleech, Sam, Roscoe and George - all nicknames Vic used on Rush in prior episodes. To make matters more obvious that Russell is a "pseudo-Rush," Russell talks to a woman (Mis' Whippon) on the phone who knew him when he was a baby.
+ When Mis' Brighton comes to visit at the end of the episode, she brings her son Williard with her. Recall that in a previous episode Sade referred to Willard as a "close, comfortable friend."

43-12-09 Winter Picnic Plans
STARRING: ART VAN HARVEY, BERNARDINE FLYNN AND DAVID WHITEHOUSE
- B. B. Baugh calls, suggesting a winter picnic. Vic (at end of call): "Bee bee, bye bye – I mean Bye, bye, B. B."
- Vic tells Sade and Russell they're not invited.
- The picnic's only for the Sweet Esther, Wisconsin crowd.
B. B. Baugh and Pom Pom Cordova were born there. - Russell: "I heard of a fella that went to Colorado with the idea of staying an hour and a quarter and ended up staying forty-seven years." Sade: "Um." Russell: "That case is on record, and the public is welcome to go to Washington, D. C. and read all the details in the Congressional Record." Sade: "I guess I'll do that." Russell (approvingly): Uh-huh, and you could visit Grant's tomb at the same time." Vic: "Grant's tomb is in New York." Russell: "I disagree." Vic: "O. K."
- The invited crowd: Sade suggests: Dr. Keevey, Lolita DiRienzi.
- Russell suggests: "Our grocery boy, Irvin, Miss Hammersweet and the girl at the cigar counter."
- Vic says two more who share Sweet Esther as their birthplace have been uncovered: Mis' Harris' roomer, Mr. Breep, and Fern Mudstudy, the girl that plays the piano at the Ten Cent store (born 11-21-1910.)
- Russell lists all eight invitees: "grocery boy Irvin, Fern Mudstudy, Vic, Pom Pom, B. B. Baugh, Morgan Perron, the girl at the cigar counter in the Unity Building, Mis' Harris' roomer, Mr. Breep, and Mis' Olive Hammersweet (Vic's secretary.)
- Sade notes there'll be two musicians there: Pom Pom and Fern. Vic doubts they'll take a piano out in the woods.
- Russell: "The Chicago & Alton shop employees had an outing at Howton's Lake, and they hauled a piano there on a truck."
- Sade bristles when Vic says "four boys and four girls". Russell says it's 1 boy, 3 men, 3 girls, and a woman.
- Mr. Breep telephone Vic, who suddenly realizes he wasn't born in Sweet Esther, Wisconsin. He was born in Union Grove, Illinois. - compiled by Barbara Schwarz, edited by Jimbo Mason
___________________
Strange doings. Take a long look at the list of folks on the picnic... look up some particulars at the Character site. There is a definite theme with the picnic - the people's names, their occupations and where they come from are all important. Trivia:
+ Fern Mudstudy will later be mentioned in an episode and her description will be nearly identical.
44-09-28 A Dun from Kleeburgers
STARRING: ART VAN HARVEY, BERNARDINE FLYNN, AND DAVID WHITEHOUSE
In an odd twist, Kleeburger's department store informs Vic that he's overpaid in the recent past and they owe him $2.00. Knowing this, he decides to persue the store owner via telephone (after hours) and tell him he wants his money. Vic provides a villainous laugh to boot.
Writer Paul Rhymer waited until the second-to-the-last episode to have Vic be triumphant in this very long-running gag.
HEAR MY PODCAST ABOUT THIS EPISODE
______________
Incredible fun as we get to hear Vic act childish and go off the deep end. This will no doubt embarrass Sade (who frequents the store at least 3 times a week) - but this doesn't even seem to faze Vic. He is so far removed from rationale that he tracks down the store owner by phone at his Elder's meeting for his church! This may remind you of Vic losing his reasoning as he did in 43-04-12 Dottie's New Dress.
Trivia:
+ Vic contends that he's always $2.00 in the hole at Kleeburger's because he is always buying a pair of socks or a tie at the end of the month. He also says the family always ends up spending $10 to $25 there every month.
Assume that Vic makes the hefty 1944 salary of $90 a month (it's likely it was far less than this.) Now, imagine him spending 15-30% of his monthly/yearly salary at Kleeburger's...
+ Sade gets another postal card from her sister, Bess. Sade never gets a chance to read it as Vic has gone off the deep end.
I have never kept track but this has to be in the range of the 12th to 15th correspondence from Bess during the series.
+ The owner of Kleeburger's department store (the "Old Man") is T.W. Kleeburger. His phone number is #6732-W. He is an elder at the Second Congregational Church. It's the first time that he or the church has been mentioned.
Vic has a villainous laugh! {{{HEAR}}}
Download the complete commercial-free, sound-improved episode!VIC, THE CHILDIn this episode, perhaps superseding any before it, shows just how childish Vic is. Not just the silly, villainous laugh but the fact that all these years, Vic has owed money to Kleeburger's and the one time he is ahead, he puts the needle to the record and advances into a campaign of terror.
There is a side of Vic we never see where I think he is a monster, albeit, a silly one. - Jimbo
